Landesliga team BW Mintard has parted ways with its prominent coach David Odonkor. The club made the announcement on Monday evening.
On Monday, Forecasting spoke with David Odonkor, coach of the Landesliga club BW Mintard. In this interview, the former professional was confident that he could successfully turn things around after three consecutive defeats: “We’re in a bit of a rut right now. But we’ll get out of it again. We’ve already proven that we can do it and we will this time too.”
But Odonkor won’t get that chance. On Monday evening, the club announced the surprising dismissal of the 40-year-old. Neither Odonkor nor the majority of amateur soccer fans had expected this decision.
Ultimately, Mintard got off to a good start to the season and was even top of the table for a while. Despite the current negative trend, the Landesliga club is still in fifth place and is only five points behind leaders SV Budberg.
However, the team’s development has not pleased those in charge in recent weeks. In addition to Odonkor, his assistant coach Soumiya Bouhadi has also been released.
We thank David and Soumi for their work. However, the sporting development is currently at risk. Therefore, we had to act as a club. We did not make the decision lightly and wish them both all the best and much success in their future endeavors.

“We would like to thank David and Soumi for their work. However, the sporting development is currently at risk. Therefore, we had to act as a club. We did not make the decision lightly and wish them both all the best and much success in their future endeavors,” said sports director Thorsten Ketzer late Monday evening. Thomas Cvetkovic will take over as head coach of the team until the winter. He will be assisted by Daniel ‘Molle’ Molitor, a long-standing member of the Mintard team.
David Odonkor had been head coach at BW Mintard since January 2024. In 27 games, the 16-time German international and 2006 World Cup participant achieved 13 wins, two draws and twelve defeats – a slightly positive record. Now his time in Mülheim has come to an end.
