The women’s Bundesliga matchday 8 has opened with a surprise: SGS Essen won surprisingly clearly 3:0 at TSG Hoffenheim.
TSG Hoffenheim suffered a surprisingly clear home defeat in the women’s Bundesliga. Coach Stephan Lerch’s team lost 0:3 (0:2) to SGS Essen on matchday eight, but remain third in the table for the time being thanks to their superior goal difference. Essen temporarily moved into fourth place. Both teams can be overtaken by Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
At the Dietmar Hopp Stadium in Sinsheim, a double strike within 60 seconds gave the visitors a comfortable lead early on. Marta Cazalla Garcia’s own goal in the 13th minute was followed by Laureta Elmazi’s 2:0 (14th). Ramona Maier (87) made the final score late on.
It was the fifth game without defeat in a row for SGS, who have been unbeaten in Essen for a month and have moved closer to the second and third Champions League qualification places thanks to their run of success. Next Saturday (November 25), SGS will host 1. FC Köln at Hafenstraße in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup.
With the defeat, TSG failed to maintain the pressure on the top two and at least temporarily displace cup winners VfL Wolfsburg (16 points) from second place. Champions Bayern Munich are top of the table with 17 points.
Tomorrow, Saturday (November 18, 2 p.m.), MSV Duisburg will travel to Wolfsburg in last place and still looking for their first win of the season. Duisburg have drawn twice in seven games so far
