Rot-Weiss Essen and Simon Engelmann are going their separate ways at the end of the season after three years together. Forecasting knows the new club of the goal scorer.
Now the cat is out of the bag: Forecasting had written several times in recent weeks about a possible departure of Simon Engelmann. On Thursday, 11 May 2023, Rot-Weiss Essen now officially announced: After three years, the striker and Rot-Weiss Essen will part ways in the summer.
And RS also knows the 34-year-old’s new employer: Engelmann will return to the club from which he joined RWE in the summer of 2020: namely SV Rödinghausen. Engelmann is to be officially presented as a new recruit at SVR this week.
In March 2023, Rödinghausen’s sporting director Alexander Müller still told Forecasting about a possible Engelmann return: “I also hear that every now and then. But we haven’t spoken to Simon. I last met him at the Christmas market in Vechta. After all, I live there too. Simon is interesting for every club. But I think it is very unlikely at this point that he will join us in the summer.”
That changed two months later. A number of talks have been held between Rödinghausen and Engelmann – with the result that he will return to the Wiehen.
Engelmann emphasised that he wants to be closer to his family again. The latter lives in Vechta, around 60 kilometres, a short hour’s drive from the SV Rödinghausen stadium.
After Engelmann’s signing, at the latest, it should be clear where SV Rödinghausen wants to go in the 2023/2024 season. “Rot-Weiss Essen and Preußen Münster will then be out of the league. It could become very exciting. Then there are the traditional clubs like Wuppertal, Oberhausen, Aachen and Fortuna Köln, who are all ambitious. Then there will be us and certainly one or two U23 teams,” said Rödinghausen’s Müller. At the latest after the Engelmann coup, the SVR is to be reckoned with more than ever.
