Alemannia Aachen can continue their winning streak in the Regionalliga West. The team from Aachen won 1:0 in a match against Velbert, who are bottom of the table.
Alemannia Aachen also won against SSVg Velbert, who are bottom of the Regionalliga West. Dustin Wilms scored the golden goal for the 1:0 victory early in the game (17th).
Aachen coach Heiner Backhaus saw the expected tough game, but praised the performance in the first half: “It was a very difficult game for us after an incredibly emotional week. I warned my team all week ahead of the game. And that’s how it was. We pressed well in the first half and hardly conceded anything. We were in control.”
After half-time, however, Velbert came out of the break with renewed vigor and were always dangerous in the penalty area. That was also to be expected, as Backhaus revealed: “After we heard the half-time speech from the visitors’ coach, I didn’t really need to say anything more. We knew that our opponents would come out of the dressing room differently. And that’s how it was: Velbert were sharp in the tackles and we just looked at each other. We then had to close the game down through Dustin Wilms. But we don’t concede anything at the back. That’s what sets us apart at the moment. I have to praise our defensive line.”
Wilms’ chance in particular has also stayed in Backhaus’ mind. Hardly surprising, as the striker ran towards the goal completely alone and the SSVg keeper also seemed to be heading for the wrong corner. But contrary to expectations of a finish, Wilms opted for a cross-field pass to Anton Heinz, which was then blocked.
Wilms was also angry about his wrong decision in the situation: “I should have taken the second one as well, then I would feel a bit better now. Next time I’ll take the shot myself. Then we can take it easier in the final minutes. “
While Alemannia Aachen moved up to third place for the time being thanks to the win, SSVg Velbert are slipping deeper and deeper into crisis. The bitter consequence is that they are in last place at the halfway point of the season.
However, coach Dimitrios Pappas could not really blame his team: “We expected an Aachen team with a lot of self-confidence. I have to praise my boys. They put up a good fight. The equalizer has to come in the phase after half-time. We try everything in every game and fight. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough against Aachen.”
The Velbert side continue their campaign on the next matchday with an away game at SV Lippstadt (Saturday, December 2, 2 p.m.). At the same time, Alemannia will play at Wuppertaler SV and seek revenge for the first leg
