Sportfreunde Siegen will be participating in the Germanen Cup. In the semi-final of the test tournament against hosts Germania Salchendorf, one player was injured and will be out for a long time.
Sportfreunde Siegen also won their second game of the summer preparations. The Regionalliga newcomers won 5-0 in the semi-finals of the Germanen Cup against hosts Germania Salchendorf (Landesliga). Josue Santo, Derrick Kyere, David Kammerbauer, Ömer Tokac, and Paul Polauke scored the goals for Sportfreunde.
For at least one Siegen player, however, the game was one to forget. Full-back Rikuhei Nabesaka had to leave the field injured in the 15th minute. The diagnosis came on Friday evening (July 4): the Japanese player has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for several months, as the club announced. Summer signing Dustin Willms had already been forced to leave the field due to injury (10th minute).
This annoyed coach Thorsten Nehrbauer, as did what he considered to be the Landesliga side’s tough approach at times: “These scenes today make the game secondary. I know that some may see it differently, but I personally think it’s a shame. It’s a friendly atmosphere, so there’s no need to go in from behind like that. It was borderline, and I’ve had enough.”
Right-back Nabesaka started all 35 games last season and was one of the key players in the promotion-winning team. He will now miss the first half of the season in the Regionalliga West. He will also miss the German Cup final, in which Sportfreunde will face TSV Weißtal on Sunday. The Landesliga side defeated Westfalenliga side TuS Erndtebrück 1-0 in their semi-final.
