Baumberg, Ratingen, Uerdingen – all top teams lose away from home

The English week in the Oberliga Niederrhein had some interesting duels to offer on Thursday. There should be a few surprises.

After the English week in the Oberliga Niederrhein opened with three games on Wednesday evening, it continued on Thursday with five duels.

Among others, the top teams Sportfreunde Baumberg, Ratingen 04/19 and KFC Uerdingen were in action. This much in advance: all three teams fell flat.

League leaders Baumberg surprisingly lost 3:2 at newly promoted Mülheimer FC. Although Enes Topal scored twice for the leaders in the closing stages, Mülheim were already leading 3-0 at that point. It was too late for them to catch up.

Baumberg’s closest rivals Ratingen 04/19 were beaten 2-0 by ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen after conceding two late goals. Fatih Özbayrak and Clinton Williams scored in stoppage time for the Essen Oberliga club.

It could have been the perfect matchday for KFC Uerdingen, but the Krefeld side also had to go home empty-handed. The traditional club lost 3:1 at Union Nettetal and lost away from home for the first time since mid-October (then 1:0 in Sonsbeck). Takumi Yanagisawa’s interim 1:1 goal could not prevent this bitter defeat.

Hamborn 07 celebrated an extremely important victory in the relegation battle. Hamborn turned a 1-0 deficit at VfB Hilden into a 2-1 away triumph. Bottom-placed TSV Meerbusch, on the other hand, were without a win and lost 1-0 to FC Büderich.

The Easter break awaits all Oberliga clubs after this English week. The next matches will not take place until Saturday, April 6. The big highlight on matchday 26 is the top-of-the-table clash between leaders Sportfreunde Baumberg and fourth-placed KFC Uerdingen
