Bayern Munich attacker Kingsley Coman has been racially insulted after losing the World Cup final and missing his shot from the penalty spot. The club reacts.
FC Bayern Munich has condemned “in the strongest possible terms” the racist insults against its attacking player Kingsley Coman after losing the World Cup final. “The FC Bayern family stands by your side, dear King – racism has no place in sport or in our society,” the Bundesliga football club tweeted on Monday.
France had lost Sunday night’s World Cup final to Messi’s Argentines 4-2 on penalties. Coman failed from the spot, as did his teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni. Coman was racially insulted on social media for this.
England internationals Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford already experienced similar hostility in the summer of 2021 after missing their penalties in the lost European Championship final against Italy.
