Thomas Tuchel has to rebuild his successful team from the start of the season already on matchday 2. Jamal Musiala has a fibre tear. Thomas Müller could benefit.
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel will have to change his successful formation from the start of the Bundesliga already on the second matchday against FC Augsburg for injury reasons. International footballer Jamal Musiala will have to “take a break for the time being” with a torn muscle fibre in his left thigh, the German champions announced on Wednesday. The 20-year-old attacking player suffered the injury in training.
Musiala had been part of Munich’s starting line-up for last Friday’s 4-0 league opener at SV Werder Bremen. Due to the injury, he will definitely miss the two upcoming league games against FC Augsburg next Sunday and away against Borussia Mönchengladbach six days later.
Thomas Müller could replace Musiala in the starting eleven against Augsburg. The 33-year-old missed most of the preparation due to injury, but was an immediate asset in Bremen after coming on as a substitute.
It remains to be seen whether Musiala will be available to coach Hansi Flick for the first international matches of the European Championship season on 9 September in Wolfsburg against Japan and three days later in Dortmund against France.
On Wednesday, defender Benjamin Pavard was also absent from Bayern training. The club stated that the Frenchman had been absent due to illness. Pavard is still keen to leave the record champions this summer. Inter Milan is the target of the 27-year-old, whose contract in Munich expires in one year. He does not want to extend it.
New signing Raphaël Guerreiro, meanwhile, continues to work on his comeback after tearing a muscle in his right calf.
