Before Christmas – Westfalenliga club presents new head coach

Tues Haltern am See, 15th in the Westfalenliga season 1 table, has presented a new head coach before Christmas Eve.

Early presents for the TuS Haltern am See first team: Alexander Zerche takes over as head coach of the Westfalenliga club. The club made the announcement on December 23, 2023.

Following the resignation of the coaching team led by Lukas Große-Puppendahl, those responsible around soccer department head Daniel Haxter and sporting director Tim Abendroth set out to find a new head coach and ultimately opted for Zerche.

“Alexander impressed us in the interviews with his manner, his soccer expertise and his approach. He has a clear plan on how he wants to develop and tackle the team so that we can be successful again in the short to medium term,” explained Abendroth.

For Zerche himself, the decision to become the Halteraner’s new coach was a quick one. Zerche: “It had been my wish to work as a head coach in the Westfalenliga for some time, as I know the league from my previous coaching positions. TuS Haltern, as one of the highest playing teams here in the district, naturally interested me the most. In my free time, I was able to get an early impression of the team. The fight against relegation is a special task, which I am well aware of,” says the new TuS coach.

Zerche added: “However, I am absolutely convinced of the quality and potential of the team to stay in the league. I was also very impressed by the open and honest discussions with the people in charge, which gave me a good feeling about working with them. I’m really looking forward to the time ahead at TuS.”

Zerche recently moved from Neuenkirchen to Dorsten and until the summer was coach of the U19 regional league team Borussia Emsdetten, whose first team is a league rival of TuS Haltern, and also coached the reserves of the Westfalenliga club. Previously, he was active at VfL Bochum’s youth training center, among others.

Alexander Zerche’s coaching team is to be supplemented by an assistant coach. TuS Haltern am See is currently in promising talks and is confident that it will be able to present a solution in the near future.
