VfL Bochum’s U19 team played themselves into a frenzy in their 6-1 win over KSC. It was exactly what the team needed, said coach David Siebers. On August 3 (1 p.m.), VfL Bochum’s U19 team will kick off the new season of the U19 youth league. Right at the start, they will face Rot-Weiss Essen in the derby.
Ahead of the season, VfL coach David Siebers gathered his newly formed team at a training camp in Freiburg. There, Siebers saw the development he had been hoping for.
Beforehand, the coach spoke about the “click” moment that needed to be found. Apparently, it came during the 6-1 friendly win over Karlsruher SC.
The coach summed up: “I’m very satisfied. The team has taken a big step forward, which is what we were hoping for. Before the training break, I said that there was still some sand in the gears and we weren’t really flowing. But if you look at the first half against KSC in particular, we had those moments and our play was characterized by a high level of activity with and against the ball. For a short time, the team played itself into a frenzy. That’s what the team needed, and I had hoped that we would achieve that in training camp. That was our best game in the preseason, which gives us a really good feeling.”

Nevertheless, training continues intensively. Siebers explains that “we are working hard and a lot on our content, and there are video analyses. We want to create clarity and a good structure on the pitch. The plan is working perfectly so far.“
That’s why it’s important to have time away from the pitch. A bike ride is planned for Friday, followed by a barbecue evening together. Siebers: ”I hope that will bring the team closer together again.”
Finally, on Saturday (3 p.m.), there will be a match against the U19 team of 1. FC Saarbrücken. The coach looks ahead: “The starting lineup will be completely changed with a view to the KSC game. The eight guys plus the goalkeeper who only came on at the end against Karlsruhe will start and play for a long time.” cb / gp
