When SpVg Schonnebeck meet RWE, one player who played for the Schwalben in the second half of the season will not be there. The player in question is Ferdi Acar.
For Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck, the highlight of the preparation is on the agenda on Saturday (2 p.m.). At Bäuminghausstraße in Essen-Altenessen, the team of veteran coach Dirk Tönnies will play against Rot-Weiss Essen, who have been promoted to the third division. For the Schwalben, it is the last test before the start of the season in the Oberliga Niederrhein.
One player who will not be taking part is Ferdi Acar. The 25-year-old attacking player, who has been under contract with the Essen Fifth Division club since January 2022, is currently without a club. Schonnebeck and Acar parted ways on 30 June. “I want to feel comfortable and play football in a family environment. As for me, I can say that I am a simple guy. I enjoy football,” the Moers native told RevierSport.
The tricky ten-man played 77 games in the Oberliga for VfB Homberg, 1. FC Monheim and Schonnebeck (19 goals, 13 assists). As a key player, Acar celebrated promotion to the Regionalliga with Homberg in 2019 and made 13 appearances in the fourth highest division in the following season until Corona’s demise. He showed off his skills in a few games under then and now coach Stefan Janßen. A cruciate ligament rupture then prevented further appearances in the regional league.
There have been one or two talks with teams in the top division, but it didn’t work out. I’m ready to attack again – hopefully in the premier league. However, I wouldn’t be averse to suitable offers from the Landesliga either.
Ferdi Acar on his future
During his time at Monheim, the 25-year-old was also slowed down by a serious muscle injury. In the meantime, however, Acar feels completely fit again and is looking for a new challenge: “I am looking for a club. Last season I had to fight my way back after my long injury. It was not an easy situation. But the most important thing is that I don’t have any more problems and I feel good.”
Acar has already received lucrative enquiries from the Landesliga. If he has his way, however, he would continue to play in the Oberliga: “That is my goal. There have already been one or two talks with Oberliga clubs, but that didn’t work out. I’m ready to attack again – hopefully in the premier league. However, I wouldn’t be averse to suitable offers from the Landesliga either. “
