Arminia Bielefeld have reached the Westfalenpokal final in a penalty shoot-out against Preußen Münster. Alemannia Aachen are also dreaming of the DFB Cup. Which teams are still in the final.
Year after year, the regional cups offer third division and amateur teams the chance to qualify for the DFB Cup. So it sometimes happens that FC Bayern Munich has to play against an Oberliga team. If the opponent comes from Westphalia, this is no longer possible this year.
Arminia Bielefeld is the first finalist – a third division team. In what ended up being a highly dramatic Westphalian derby on the Alm, Mitch Kniat’s team knocked out third division rivals Preußen Münster 4:3 on penalties. SC Verl and SV Lippstadt 08 will play out the second finalist on Tuesday (March 26, 7 p.m.).
In the Lower Rhine Cup, both semi-finals are still to be played. Both Rot-Weiss Oberhausen (Tuesday, April 2, 7.30 pm, against Sportfreunde Baumberg) and Rot-Weiss Essen (Wednesday, April 10, 7.30 pm against Germania Ratingen) are favorites in their matches, meaning that the final could be a rematch of the Pott classic.
Meanwhile, the two finalists in the Middle Rhine Cup have already been decided. Regional league side Alemannia Aachen defeated league rivals 1. FC Düren 2:1, while Bonner SC, who play one division lower, knocked BW Königsdorf out of the competition 4:0.
In the final on Saturday, May 25, the in-form Kaiserstädter are naturally favorites and could crown the season with promotion to the third division, cup victory and participation in the DFB Cup.
