Bielefeld and Rödinghausen confident – first quarterfinal set

In the first round of 16 matches in the Lower Rhine Cup, favorites Arminia Bielefeld and SV Rödinghausen did their homework and advanced to the next round.

Third-division Arminia Bielefeld did not show any weakness in the 3rd round of the Westfalenpokal and punched their ticket to the quarterfinals. Arminia won 5:0 (2:0) at Landesligist SuS Westenholz, who moved to the Sportclub Arena in Verl as hosts in exile.

In front of 3022 spectators, the Landesligist showed a spirited performance, but far too rarely really put the Bielefeld defense in danger. Manuel Wintzheimer’s early goal (14th) marked the 1:0 for the favorites, who despite several good opportunities in the first half could only add to their tally from the spot. Scorer Wintzheimer took the penalty kick, Leandro Putaro beat the strong SuS keeper Timo Leifeld (38.).

After the change of ends, the Landesliga team continued to fight bravely, but their strength waned after about an hour. Thus, the Bielefeld team increased the score to a level worthy of the team. In the 2nd half, Putaro (60th), Nicklas Shipnoski (61st) and Tom Geerkens (68th) scored again, with Leifeld also making several saves. Then the view went to the parallel play of the evening.

Regional league team SV Rödinghausen also lived up to its role as favorites at the last district league team remaining in the competition. At the Cronsbachstadion of SpVg. Steinhagen, SVR took the lead after just over a minute, Simon Engelmann scoring the 1:0. And Rödinghausen wanted to ensure clear conditions, Luca Finn Horn (22nd), Patrick Kurzen (29th) and Leon Tia (37th) provided the 4:0 half-time score.

Arminia and SVR meet

Compared to the first half, the second 45 minutes were more leisurely. Simon Engelmann scored again (60th), otherwise the result did not change. Steinhagen also failed to score a consolation goal, and the score remained 0:5. SVR will have the wind at its back going into the next game, as they travel to SC Wiedenbrück on Friday (October 13, 7:30 p.m.).

In the quarterfinals, Arminia Bielefeld and SV Rödinghausen will meet. An exact date has not yet been set, but the quarterfinals of the Westfalenpokal should be played by November 24 at the latest.
