ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen recently celebrated two victories in a row. Now it’s off to the leaders of the Oberliga Niederrhein.
With two wins in a row and 7:1 goals, ETB Schwarz-Weiß has recently registered in the Oberliga Niederrhein after a messed-up start.
On the seventh matchday (Saturday, 4 p.m., RS-Liveticker), the biggest yardstick in the season so far awaits the team of coach Damian Apfeld: It goes to leaders Sportfreunde Baumberg, who seem to dominate the league at will in the first weeks of the season.
Six games, six wins, 22:5 goals – with that, the Sportfreunde are providing top marks in all respects. “At this stage, Baumberg is the biggest challenge with us in the league,” coach Apfeld is quoted as saying by the club ahead of the game. “If you look at the statistics, we know exactly what is coming.”
The 37-year-old continued, “We have to defend very well on Saturday and it is also not that easy to score goals against Sportfreunde. Accordingly, we have to create and create solutions in both directions. Nevertheless, I am actually very, very optimistic. We’re in a very good mood at the moment and are really up for this game and this challenge. “
Most in focus at SFB: Robin Hömig. With eight goals from six games, the 31-year-old is the top scorer and has been a guarantee of success for Monheim for many years. Hömig has already won the goalscoring crown twice, and with a total of 125 goals, he is the fourth most successful scorer in the history of the Oberliga Niederrhein. “He is one of the best, if not the best player in our league,” says Apfeld appreciatively.
Nevertheless, the Essen coach is optimistic: “We are also in a very good mood at the moment and are really up for this game and this challenge.” For Schwarz-Weiß, it should also be a kind of maturity test: the youngest team in the league against the experienced Baumberger. “Two different worlds meet in terms of the team structure, which can be very exciting.
