Joshua Quarshie has quickly settled in at his loan club Fortuna Düsseldorf. Now, however, an injury has set him back.
Joshua Quarshie only moved from TSG Hoffenheim to second-division club Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan in the winter – and the deal turned out to be a real win-win situation in the first few weeks. Quarshie has featured in all seven games so far in Düsseldorf’s shorthanded defense, making five appearances in the starting eleven.
Last weekend, however, the 19-year-old was also caught out. In Fortuna’s 2-0 win over Hamburger SV, Quarshie had to come off shortly before the break and was replaced by Jamil Siebert, who was forced to make an early comeback after tearing an inner ligament in his knee.
It is now clear that Quarshie will miss the Düsseldorfers for the time being with a calf injury. “It’s a torn muscle fiber, fortunately without tendon involvement,” the club explained in a press release. He will therefore miss at least Friday’s match against bottom club VfL Osnabrück.
The situation in central defense thus remains precarious for the second division fourth-placed team. On Friday, they are likely to line themselves up once again with the return of Siebert and Tim Oberdorf. In addition to Quarshie, captain Andre Hoffmann and Jordy de Wijs are also missing, both with torn muscle fibers.
Injury at an inopportune time
The injury comes at an inopportune time for Quarshie, as the Duisburg native, who moved to Hoffenheim from Rot-Weiss Essen in 2022, has made regular professional appearances for the first time in his young career in recent weeks. Prior to that, he had only played one Bundesliga minute for TSG.
As a youth player, Quarshie played for Duisburger FV 08, DSC Preussen, Tura 88 Duisburg, FC Schalke 04 and also for Fortuna Düsseldorf for a year before joining RWE in 2020. The five-time German U20 international’s loan in Düsseldorf runs until the summer of 2025.
