VfL Bochum showed two faces at SSVg Velbert. After a weak first half, the ten fresh players ensured a clear victory in the second half
VfL Bochum beat Oberliga side SSVg Velbert 5:1 in a test match. The clear underdogs stood up to Peter Zeidler’s team for a long time.
The Bundesliga side struggled from the outset against the fifth-division side. Despite the expected clear advantages in terms of control of the game, they lacked penetration in the final third, which is why they only made tentative approaches for a long time. Meanwhile, Velbert did well defensively and made pinpricks in attack.
For example in the 34th minute, when new signing Marco De Stefano was under no pressure, used his space and flicked the ball past Niclas Thiede into the corner to make it 1:0.
Almost in the midst of the jubilation, Bochum then found a solution. Mats Pannewig finished off a header from Moritz Broschinski. Tristan Duschke unfortunately deflected the 19-year-old’s shot and the ball bounced into the goal to make it 1:1 (35′). However, VfL did not manage any more at first, which is why the score remained 1:1 at the break.

However, that only lasted for a short time after the change of ends and ten changes for VfL. After a foul by Duschke, the eye-catching Lukas Daschner delivered the resulting free-kick into the penalty area, where Noah Loosli was given too much space and headed in to make it 2:1 (50′).
The Bundesliga side then stepped up the pace in the final phase and ensured a result that was still worthy of the win. New signing Ibrahima Sissoko made it 3:1 with a powerful finish from the back (70′), Agon Elezi finished off an assist from Maximilian Wittek to make it 4:1 and Philipp Hofmann took advantage of a cross from Niklas Jahn to push the ball over the line to make it 5:1 (77′). In the final moves of the game, Daschner missed the 6:1 twice (79th/86th). Nevertheless, VfL coach Peter Zeidler should be able to live with the second half – in stark contrast to the first half.
VfL continue their campaign on Friday at Alemannia Aachen. Kick-off at the Tivoli is at 7 pm. Velbert continue with another test match next Wednesday. At 7:30 p.m., they will host their neighbors from the Bergisches Land, Wuppertaler SV.
