FC Wegberg-Beeck has been part of the Regionalliga West (Western Regional League) on and off. Now the main sponsor and managing director, who held both positions, is stepping down.
When you think of the Regionalliga West and FC Wegberg-Beeck, the term “yo-yo club” quickly comes to mind. In the past, the Beecker team has repeatedly switched back and forth between the Regionalliga West and the Mittelrheinliga. This season, it is clear that promotion is no longer a possibility. In tenth place, FC Wegberg-Beeck is 14 points behind league leaders Bergisch Gladbach 09.
Main sponsor and managing director Werner Tellers is now drawing his conclusions. He is stepping down at the end of the current season and will continue to support FC Wegberg-Beeck to a small extent as a sponsor. “I will continue to be involved in projects and sponsorship, but without the day-to-day responsibility,” he told “kicker.”
His retirement was a decision that had been planned for some time: “It was an open secret that I would stop if we didn’t reach the regional league. The decision had been looming for years.”
He added: “The regional league would have brought new momentum and opened up sponsorship potential. But without realistic sporting prospects, the effort is no longer justified.”

As managing director, he was also the jack of all trades, Tellers continued: “In Wegberg, you’re not just the managing director. When toilets are clogged or tickets don’t fit, the phone rings at my house. The structures are not professionalized and are a constant burden.” That, too, was a reason for his resignation.
An extraordinary general meeting will be held on Friday, February 6, at which a new chairman and managing director will be elected. “If we don’t find a new board, the club will be deregistered the next day,” Tellers explained.
In addition to his future role as a small sponsor, the 59-year-old also wants to remain with the club as a spectator. He hinted at this. “I want to come to the game, eat a sausage, watch the game, and go home. I’m not going to control the club from behind the scenes.”
