Third division side Rot-Weiss Essen must quickly put their weak performance against Verl behind them and focus on Hansa Rostock. Manuel Wintzheimer also sets out this line of approach.

Manuel Wintzheimer scored for the third time in a row in a competitive game against SC Verl. The Rot-Weiss Essen striker scored the 1:2 goal from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute. However, in the end he was unable to prevent the disappointing 1:3 home defeat.

Nevertheless, Wintzheimer’s current form was at least one positive aspect of this emotional Wednesday evening. “Of course I’m happy about my goal, but the team comes first. We have to score,” the center forward emphasized in the subsequent interview in the catacombs.

Overall, RWE had problems for the entire 95 minutes to get a grip on the opponent, who dominated the game with a lot of possession. The team from Essen played too passively, and only when they were down to ten did they push forward a little more. But two chances in the entire game was, of course, far too few. Even Wintzheimer, who is usually good at holding the ball up, was not given enough service. The dismissal of Julian Eitschberger also played a major role in the center forward’s analysis:

“We knew that Verl are strong and play good football. The sending off was obviously annoying. It was hard to play for a weak side for 60 minutes against such a strong opponent. We were able to put one or two pinpricks in the second half, but in the end, unfortunately, we took nothing away. Fortunately, it continues on Saturday. Then we can do better the things we did badly against Verl.”

Tomorrow (October 26, 2 p.m.) Rot-Weiss Essen will be a guest at Hansa Rostock. The second division relegated team is in a relegation place, recently conceded two defeats in a row and fired coach Bernd Hollerbach on Thursday.

For RWE, a potential win would go a long way to lifting them out of the relegation zone. Currently, the team of head coach Christoph Dabrowski still has a one-point lead over the relegation zone. Wintzheimer knows what is at stake here:
