Bottom-of-the-table SSVg Velbert strengthens its squad with former Schalke talent

Sport- und Spielvereinigung Velbert has once again landed a reinforcement—one with a Schalke past.

SSVg Velbert has presented Philip Buczkowski as a new signing for its offense. The 20-year-old striker had been without a club since July 1, 2025, and previously played for FC Schalke 04’s youth team for nine years.

Buczkowski is considered a modern offensive player who plays to his strengths, especially on the wing. With his high speed, dynamism, and strong drive to score goals, he embodies exactly the profile that the Velbert managers were looking for.

Buczkowski received his soccer training at one of the most renowned youth academies in Germany: He came up through the youth teams at FC Schalke 04, including the U17 and U19 teams, and played for the U23 team in the Regionalliga West until the summer of 2025. He made 14 appearances there.
Buczkowski has initially signed a contract with Velbert until the summer of 2026.

Sport- und Spielvereinigung Velbert is bottom of the Regionalliga West table with just four points and is already ten points adrift of safety.

SSVg Velbert recently put in a strong performance against league leaders FC Schalke 04 II, losing only narrowly 1-2. Coach Bogdan Komorowski is hopeful that not only the performance but also the results will be better in the future. After the 0-5 defeat in the previous game against Borussia Dortmund II, Komorowski had demanded a different attitude from his team and was now satisfied: “Since the equalizer, we were fully in the game. We were the better soccer team as the game progressed. I thought the way the boys fought and played soccer was very good. That’s my kind of soccer, that’s what I stand for.”

Next weekend – Saturday, November 1, 2 p.m. – SSVg Velbert will travel to 1. FC Köln II – with Philip Buczkowski in the squad.
