The relegation battle is getting tougher for TVD Velbert: They also lost against Ratingen 04/19. Seven goals were scored in Velbert in the 3:4 defeat.
One game of the 15th match day of the Oberliga Niederrhein was still to be played: due to the weather, the game between TVD Velbert and Ratingen 04/19 was postponed to Tuesday evening (November 26). TVD Velbert was under massive pressure to win after Sportfreunde Niederwenigern’s victory over SV Sonsbeck, as Niederwenigern handed the TVD the red lantern thanks to their successful recent weeks.
This means that Velbert is in last place for the first time this season. Ratingen’s opponents last faced MSV Duisburg in the Lower Rhine Cup and gave the MSV everything they had – it was only after 120 minutes that Duisburg came out on top. This strong performance, coupled with the victory in the Oberliga over the crisis-ridden VfB Homberg, should provide a tailwind for the away game in Velbert.
This was also sorely needed: before the 3-1 home win against Homberg, Ratingen lost four games in a row. But the turnaround was continued against Velbert: Peter Radojewski’s team took the lead after 25 minutes. Keita Taguchi equalized for the bottom-placed team (40th minute) – before Ratingen captain Phil Spillmann put the favorites back in the lead (45th minute).
Shortly after the restart, the next setback for TVD: Shane Jaworek was sent off with a red card (49′). Despite being a man down, the bottom-of-the-table team in the Oberliga managed to equalize again. Joshua Kapenda equalized Ratingen’s lead (55′). But a double strike by Ratingen in the 73rd and 79th minute seemed to seal the game.
Despite being a man up, Ratingen was unable to comfortably see the lead over the time. With his second goal of the game, Kapenda scored shortly before the end to make it 3:4 from Velbert’s point of view. But hopes of winning a point were in vain: after two draws in a row, TVD Velbert lost its home game against Ratingen 04/19.
