Record world champions Brazil and superstar Neymar have started the World Cup tournament in Qatar with a success. The five-time title winners and joint favourites beat Serbia 2-0 (0-0) in Group G thanks to two goals from Richarlison, who normally scores for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. The Tottenham Hotspur striker scored for the South Americans in front of 88,103 spectators at the Lusail Stadium with a tap-in (62nd minute) and an artistic side-footed finish (73rd).
The attack-minded Brazilians were already superior in the first half, but could not make use of their chances. After the break, too, Neymar was the main source of inspiration. The team of national coach Tite clearly increased the pressure. Alex Sandro hit the post after just under an hour, before Richarlison struck twice. Casemiro then hit the ball against the crossbar.
For the Serbians, ex-Frankfurt player Filip Kostic was absent due to injury.
And many are worried about Neymar, as the PSG player from Brazil has injured his ankle.

In the other Group G match, Switzerland beat Cameroon 1-0 thanks to a goal from ex-Bundesliga player Breel Embolo. Embolo was born in Cameroon, by the way.
He’s had a lot to say lately, but Cristiano Ronaldo now let his football skills do the talking as Portugal beat Ghana 3-2 at “Stadium 974”. Ronaldo’s 65th-minute penalty made the 37-year-old the first player to score in five consecutive World Cups. In addition to “CR 7”, Joao Felix and Rafael Leao also got on the scoresheet.
In the other Group H match, Uruguay and South Korea drew 0-0 in Education City. Portugal lead Group H after the first matchday
