The SG Wattenscheid 09 received several letters with justiciable content last week. Head coach Christian Britscho took a stand.
A relegation of SG Wattenscheid 09 from the Regionalliga West to the Oberliga Westfalen now seems inevitable after the 2:5 against Kaan-Marienborn.
SGW fans were disappointed with their team’s poor results for long stretches, but some have taken it too far in recent weeks. In addition to insults and spitting attacks, there were also unsightly threats in the direction of the club.
“It is also disturbing that we received several letters last weekend, which presumably come from one and the same person. We do not want to reproduce the content of these emails here. What we can say, however, is that we have filed criminal charges because the content is without any doubt justiciable. We do not know the motivation and background of this person, but we want to and must communicate one thing: We must deal with each other differently if we all want to continue on the same path together in the future,” reads one paragraph from the club’s open letter to the fans – RevierSport reported.
After the 2:5 defeat against 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn on the last matchday, the SGW’s relegation from the Regionalliga West is as good as sealed. Head coach Christian Britscho also spoke of the fact that there will be no more Regionalliga in Wattenscheid next season.
I wish you to find a good doctor who will heal you and help you to get over your mental mutilations and become a clear person again. I wish you that with all my heart and leave our boys in peace.

Furthermore, Britscho addressed clear words to the author of the nasty letters and came to the defense of his players. “This goes to the person who wrote this letter last week. I wish you to find a good doctor who will heal you and help you get over your mental mutilations and become a clear person again. I wish you that with all my heart and leave our boys in peace,” the coach stated regarding the hostility.
Britscho also said that criticism of his person and the way his team plays is certainly welcome, but it depends on the manner. “If I substitute a player and he is greeted with whistles, then that is something that does not work like that. I would ask anyone who witnesses something like that to go up to the person and say, ‘Listen, are you out of your mind? Knock it off.'”
Let’s consider where we come from, let’s consider who we are, and most of all, let’s consider who we want to be.
Christian Britscho
In conclusion, the coach called for more cohesion and respect, thereby making it clear that any kind of insult and threat have no place in soccer. “Let’s consider where we come from, let’s consider who we are and, above all, let’s consider who we want to be.”
In the remaining three match days, SG Wattenscheid 09 will still face Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, FC Düren and Fortuna Düsseldorf II.
