Broschinski on the “mole,” system change, and Hoffenheim

Bundesliga club VfL Bochum is finally looking to secure its first three points of the season. Moritz Broschinski remains optimistic despite the external distractions.

There have been better and calmer times around Castroper Straße in recent years. VfL Bochum is bottom of the Bundesliga table with one point from six games, lost 1-0 to second-division side SSV Jahn Regensburg in the DFB Cup, and there have been recent discussions about a number of side issues and a possible mole in the team, as reported by Forecasting.

The past few weeks have also left their mark on the players. “I can remember one or two days that were definitely better. But we shouldn’t judge too much or get caught up in other things that are happening around the pitch. That’s not what’s important. That kind of thing has no place in public. Everyone should focus on themselves,” Moritz Broschinski told RS.

The center forward celebrated at least one small success of his own during the international break. In the 2-3 friendly defeat against 1. FC Köln, the 24-year-old scored a spectacular goal to give his side a 2-1 lead. In the friendly in Cologne, coach Peter Zeidler changed the system for the first time and had his team play in a 4-3-3 formation. Previously, the 62-year-old had relied on a diamond midfield with two central strikers.

“The instructions come from the coach, of course; he decides how we play. Accordingly, every player has to do his job. We are in constant communication and trying to find solutions so that things don’t continue like this. We want to see better days again. If the system helps, then we’re all happy to accept that,” explained Broschinski.

We won’t underestimate any opponent, that’s something the coaching team also exemplifies. However, Hoffenheim is currently going through a tough phase and is performing below expectations. They are under pressure and want to perform better than they have done so far.

The striker, who has been under contract in Bochum since January 2023, is still waiting for his first goal in the current Bundesliga season. Last season, he scored twice and set up four goals. Maybe he’ll break his duck on Saturday (October 19, 3:30 p.m.) in the away game in Hoffenheim. A win by two goals would see VfL overtake TSG in the table.

Broschinski looks ahead: “We won’t underestimate any opponent, that’s something the coaching team sets an example with. Hoffenheim are going through a tough phase at the moment and are performing below expectations. They are under pressure and want to perform better than they have done so far.” fn with gp
