Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 have won their matches in the U19 Bundesliga West. The Revierklubs are thus increasing the pressure on 1. FC Köln.
The U19 teams of Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 have successfully said goodbye to the winter break. On the last matchday of the year in the Bundesliga West, BVB defeated MSV Duisburg 1-0, while S04 celebrated a 3-0 win at SC Paderborn.
The Revierklubs thus increase the pressure on the previous leader 1. FC Köln, which receives Preußen Münster at noon (1 p.m.). At least temporarily, Dortmund and Schalke have overtaken the cathedral cities. Update (3pm): 1. FC Köln has won its match and is now the winter champion of the U19 Bundesliga.
However, if Cologne win against Münster, they would regain the top spot from BVB, which would then have the same number of points, and relegate Schalke to third place.
For the Dortmunders, the victory over MSV on Sunday morning was connected with a hard piece of work. Duisburg showed why they are one of the positive surprises of the current season and stand in fifth place.
It was not until the 85th minute that the winning goal was scored. With a Sunday shot, Rafel Lubach secured the three points for Borussia. Before that, MSV had weakened itself: Lennox Kern was shown the red card for allegedly spitting in the direction of the referee (62nd).
The spectators also had to wait a long time for a goal in Schalk’s game in Paderborn. In the 74th minute, Niklas Barthel gave the Schalke team the lead. Kelsey Meisel increased the lead in the final minutes with a brace (80th, 88th).
