BVB back in the black – almost €10 million profit

After two loss-making years, Borussia Dortmund made a profit again in the last financial year. Hans-Joachim Watzke is satisfied.

After two loss-making years, Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund is back in the black. In the 2022/23 financial year, Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA generated a profit of €9.6 million after taxes. Sales, excluding transfer income, rose to €418.2 million. The gross consolidated total (consolidated sales plus realised gross transfer income) amounted to € 515.4 million.

“We have left the years of gloom behind us,” said managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, who presented the positive figures on Monday with chief financial officer Thomas Treß. Due to the Corona pandemic, BVB had last recorded high losses of 72 and 35 million euros for two years in a row.

“The Corona years cost us 150 million euros because they took away our business model,” Watzke said, “I have always said that we will return to our old strength when we have that behind us. We have delivered.” The BVB management was particularly satisfied with the development in the sponsorship sector. Here, turnover rose by 16.1 to 142.3 million euros.
