On matchday 9 of the A-Junioren-Bundesliga West, Borussia Dortmund defeated the visitors from SC Preußen Münster 3-0 (1-0). However, BVB coach Mike Tullberg was not completely satisfied.
Borussia Dortmund’s U19 team beat SC Preußen Münster 3-0 (1-0) on matchday 9 of the A-Junioren-Bundesliga West, ending Münster’s winning streak of three games in a row.
The lead for BVB was scored by 16-year-old Paris Josua Brunner in the 33rd minute. In the second half, Julian Dean Rijkhoff increased the lead to 2:0 from the penalty spot (53rd) and a little later from play to make the final score 3:0 (59th).
With the win, Borussia Dortmund remains the only team in the league to remain unbeaten. Unlike with the offensive, BVB coach Mike Tullberg was extremely satisfied with his defence after the final whistle.
“In the first half, I was very, very loud. That was especially in the direction of my offensive players, but without mentioning names. We had very big scoring chances in the first half, but the way Münster defended us, I think we should have created a lot more scoring chances. In the end, it was like it was until the end of the season. We are playing the fifth game in a row to zero and I think that my chain in the centre of defence is doing a really good job,” Tullberg praised his defensive line after the game.
Nevertheless, after the final whistle, the BVB coach was complaining about the offensive department despite the three goals scored. If it had been up to Tullberg, BVB could have scored one or two more goals. “Up front it was just too little for me. We had too many scenes where we should have been cleaner on the ball to get free in front of goal. We left five to six hundred per cent scoring chances and I told the team at half-time that we had to keep at it. Defensively it was top notch and I’m very satisfied. On the offensive, it wasn’t that the effort and will weren’t there, but there was still a lack of quality on the ball and decision-making in front of goal at times,” Tullberg continued.
Tullberg on BVB talent Brunner: “Still has a lot to learn “
Due to his strong performances in Dortmund’s U17s, Paris Josua Brunner was promoted to BVB’s U19s. At the U17s, Brunner scored 16 goals in six games. His overall record this season is 22 goals in 18 competitive games. Under Tullberg, the 16-year-old is now expected to develop further in the U19 team.
“He has a lot to learn and needs to get much better on the ball. There are too many contacts where he loses the ball when he is otherwise free in front of goal. We have to improve that and he knows that. He is an U17 player and still has a lot to learn. He scored a nice goal against Münster, but he also had a few decisive scenes that came to nothing. We are working on that and have time in the coming weeks to develop that further,” Tullberg explained in reference to the young talent.
On the upcoming matchday 10, BVB’s U19s will face the youngsters from VfL Bochum in a small Revier derby.
