Borussia Dortmund has extended the contract of a key player from the U23 squad. He had joined BVB last summer.
His move from Hertha BSC to Borussia Dortmund last year was noisy, but since then Marcel Lotka attracted attention mainly with good performances.
Now the young goalkeeper from the U23 has been rewarded for this – with an early contract extension. The 21-year-old signed a new working paper until 2025, having previously been tied to the Revierklub until 2024.
The Duisburg native is the clear number one goalkeeper in the third division reserves. He makes 24 appearances and was only absent for a while in the Hinserie, as he was needed as a substitute in the Bundesliga team.
“From the first time we met, we were convinced that we had found not only a talented young goalkeeper in Marcel, but also an ambitious and hard-working team player,” praised team manager Ingo Preuß in a statement from the club. “He has confirmed all these assessments in his first year at BVB, where he has developed into one of the best players in his position in the 3rd division. “
Lotka had already made appearances in the Bundesliga for Hertha BSC last season, but by then his move to BVB was already certain.
For the two-time Poland U21 international goalkeeper, the move to Dortmund was a return to the Ruhr region, where he was born – and where he took his first steps in soccer. He passed through the junior departments of MSV Duisburg, Schalke 04, Rot-Weiss Essen and Bayer Leverkusen.
“The move to Dortmund proved to be the right one for me from day one. At BVB, I feel the trust and support of the coaching team, my teammates and all the staff. I try to give back this positive energy in every training session and every game, and I’m full of anticipation to continue learning for myself and my game here. “
