Borussia Dortmund II and VfB Oldenburg lost 1:2 (0:1) on Matchday 8 of the 3rd Division. This is the fourth defeat in a row for the Dortmund team.
Borussia Dortmund II lost 1:2 (0:1) to the visitors from VfB Oldenburg in pouring rain at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park in front of 2256 spectators on Matchday 8 of the 3rd Division. This is the fourth defeat in a row for Borussia. VfB Oldenburg, on the other hand, remains unbeaten for four games thanks to the victory against BVB.
The first half was relatively even. The young Borussians had more of the game, but were not consistent enough in front of goal. The best chance for Dortmund in the first half came from Jayden Braaf. In the 27th minute, Braaf beat Oldenburg’s Leon Deichmann in the sixteen and shot the ball from an acute angle just past the far corner.
Just three minutes later the bell rang, but in the BVB box. VfB player Manfred Starke gave the visitors the lead after a pass that was suspected to be offside, and Starke’s arm was clearly involved when he received the ball. Fortunately for Oldenburg, the VAR is not used in the 3rd division. In front of goal, however, Starke kept his cool and skilfully lofted the ball over goalkeeper Luca Unbehaun in the Borussia goal. The score was 0:1 going into the half-time break.
Dortmund miss the turnaround again
At the beginning of the second half, Dortmund put on a lot of pressure and head coach Christian Preußer’s team equalised in the form of Marco Pasalic in the 52nd minute. After a free kick by Antonios Papadopoulos, the ball came to Pasalic. Pasalic hooked the ball and fired a low shot into VfB keeper Pelle Boevink’s goal to equalise.
Not much worth mentioning happened until the closing stages of the game. Apart from a few chances here and there, neither club was able to create any dangerous scoring opportunities. It took until shortly before the final whistle before things got heated again. A cross from VfB player Justin Plautz sailed through the air for a long time, before Robert Zietarski sank the entry with a powerful header to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Zietarski’s goal was also the final goal of the match, so that after 90 minutes the scoreboard showed 1:2.
On the upcoming matchday 9, Borussia Dortmund II will play an away game against FSV Zwickau. VfB Oldenburg will face SpVgg Bayreuth at home.
