BVB II snaps up winger from a promoted third division team

Seventh new signing for Borussia Dortmund’s second team. A winger joins BVB from the Bundesliga runners-up.

Babis Drakas joins the Borussia Dortmund U23s. The 21-year-old comes from VfB Stuttgart’s second team and has signed a contract until 2026. A transfer fee is payable for the winger. He is the Black & Yellows’ seventh new signing.

Last season, he played a major role in VfB’s promotion to the third division with four goals and ten assists – making him the best provider of assists for his team. The right-footer joined the Swabians’ youth team in 2015 from SG Sonnenhof Großaspach. In the past two seasons, Drakas made 57 appearances in the Regionalliga Südwest.

“Babis was an essential part of Stuttgart’s U23s in their promotion year. He is a very quick player and we hope that he will be able to set up his teammates in the best possible way in the final third and also get himself on the scoresheet a few times,” explained Ingo Preuß, sporting director of BVB’s U23s.

Drakas says of his move: “After two years in the regional league, I’m now ready to take the next step and play in the 3rd division. BVB is a great club and I’m really looking forward to getting to know my new team soon. Of course, I spoke to the coach about the direction and we were both convinced that I would fit in very well with the team with my way of playing soccer. I’m also looking forward to the impressive backdrop of the 3rd division.”

Dortmund have already secured the services of Yannik Lührs (Hannover 96), Baran Mogultay (MSV Duisburg), Felix Paschke (Hamburger SV II), Jordi Paulina (USV Hercules), Niklas Jessen (St. Pauli II) and Ben Hüning (SC Wiedenbrück). Danylo Krevsun, Filippo Mané and Leonardo Posadas have been brought up from their own U19s. Noa-Gabriel Simic also returns from his loan
