The German U19 national team won the Four Nations Tournament in Romania thanks to a 2-0 victory over Norway. A Dortmund player scored a spectacular goal.
After a 2-1 win against Spain in their opening match of the Four Nations Tournament in Romania and a 0-2 defeat against the hosts, the German U19 national team won their final match.
Coach Hanno Balitsch’s team beat Norway 2-0 (1-0) to secure the tournament victory with six points. Said El Mala from third-division club Viktoria Cologne took the lead with a long-range shot from around 20 meters, converting Germany’s superiority into a goal (34′). After the break, Almugera Kabar of Borussia Dortmund converted a free kick from around 23 meters (63′).
In addition to left-back Kabar, another Borussia Dortmund player, Kjell Wätjen, was in the starting lineup. In the 69th minute, he was replaced by Mateo Kritzer from Karlsruher SC. Former Dortmund player Paris Brunner, who moved to AS Monaco in the summer and was immediately loaned out to Belgian first division club Cercle Brugge, came on in the 83rd minute for the 1-0 goalscorer.
“The way we played was important to us, and we wanted to show a reaction after what was, at best, a mixed performance against Romania. The boys did that and put in a convincing performance,” Balitsch was quoted as saying on the DFB’s channels. ”We should have been ahead by more after the first half. It was important to score the second goal to secure the win, which we then did. It was a good performance against Norway.”
The DFB team will now continue in November with the first round of European Championship qualifiers. Balitsch’s team will face host Andorra on November 12 (starting at 7 p.m.), Cyprus on November 15 (starting at 3 p.m.), and Hungary on November 18 (starting at 7 p.m.). In any case, the dress rehearsal for a successful qualification was a success with the victory in the four-nation tournament.
