BVB professional scores a goal worth seeing – U19 wins four-nation tournament

The German U19 national team has won the four-nation tournament in Romania thanks to a 2-0 victory over Norway. A professional from Dortmund scored a goal worth seeing.

After beating Spain 2-1 at the start of the four-nation tournament in Romania and losing 2-0 to the hosts, the German U19 national team won their third and final game.

Coach Hanno Balitsch’s team beat Norway 2-0 (1-0) to secure first place in the tournament with six points. Said El Mala of third division club Viktoria Cologne scored the opening goal with a long-range shot from around 20 meters, converting German dominance into a goal (34). After the break, Almugera Kabar of Borussia Dortmund scored with a free kick from around 23 meters (63).

Kjell Wätjen, a further Borussia Dortmund player, started the game on the left side of defense alongside Kabar. In the 69th minute, he was replaced by Mateo Kritzer of Karlsruher SC. Former Dortmund player Paris Brunner, who joined AS Monaco this summer and was immediately loaned out to the Belgian first division club Cercle Bruges, came on for the scorer of the 1-0 goal in the 83rd minute.

“It was important for us to show a reaction after the at best mixed performance against Romania. The boys did that and put in a convincing performance,” Balitsch is quoted as saying on the DFB channels. ”We should have been leading by more after the first half. It was important to add the second goal to bring the game home safely, which we then did. It was a good performance against Norway.”

The DFB squad will now continue in November with the first round of European Championship qualifiers. Then Balitsch’s team will face hosts Andorra on November 12 (starting at 7 p.m.), Cyprus on November 15 (starting at 3 p.m.) and Hungary on November 18 (starting at 7 p.m.). The dress rehearsal for a successful qualification was a success with the win of the four-nation tournament.
