BVB talent Coulibaly on the verge of making the jump

Soumaila Coulibaly has found a new club. BVB will have to make another move on the transfer market if he leaves.

Soumaila Coulibaly no longer plays a role in BVB’s plans. A few weeks ago, the 19-year-old central defender was on the verge of a move to FC Burnley, a team promoted to the Premier League, but the move fell through in the final straight.

Now the Frenchman has apparently found another club. According to information from this editorial office, the Frenchman is on the verge of a move to Belgian champions Royal Antwerp. Sport1 and the Ruhr Nachrichten also report on this. Coulibaly is still under contract with BVB until 2026. A loan deal is being discussed, which would also include an obligation to buy or at least an option to buy – as was the aim in the deal with Burnley, which ultimately fell through.

Soumaila Coulibaly trained at Paris Saint-Germain in France and moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Last season, however, he was mostly on the bench, with BVB coach Edin Terzic trusting other players. In his first and only Bundesliga game, Coulibaly, who has been repeatedly set back by injuries, fluffed badly in a wild 3:3 against VfB Stuttgart. Now the Frenchman is probably looking for a new chance.

BVB, meanwhile, would have to look around for a new centre-back. In Niklas Süle, Mats Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck, three professionals are available for this position. Emre Can is only supposed to help out here. Nnmadi Collins has moved to Eintracht Frankfurt – and now Soumaila Coulibaly is also likely to leave the club.
