In the Oberliga Niederrhein, KFC Uerdingen was able to stop its losing streak and secure a 2-1 victory against Holzheimer SG.
1-1 against Baumberg, 2-2 in Sonsbeck, 6-1 against Biemenhorst, 1-4 in Büderich, 2-1 in St. Tönis, 0-1 at ETB, 0-4 at VfB Homberg and now a 2-1 victory against Holzheimer SG: These are KFC Uerdingen’s results so far in the 2025/2026 season. “I don’t want to declare a crisis, but everyone should understand what is at stake. I don’t want to accuse any player of being better than they think they are and not being able to assess the situation. Absolutely not! Nevertheless, we all need to look within ourselves and perform better. We now have a debt to repay,” explains captain Ole Päffgen ahead of the game against HSG. After the 2-1 victory, it’s clear that KFC Uerdingen has overcome the first negative phase of the current season, if there ever was a crisis.
About the game: After a hectic start, Uerdingen grew in confidence and was able to create chances. However, the last minutes of the first half belonged to the visitors, who squandered several great opportunities. Abdelkarim Afkir had the best chance (40th minute) when he was denied by KFC keeper Jonas Holzum.
In the second half, Krefeld, spurred on by 1,300 fans at Grotenburg, grew stronger and stronger. And Alexander Lipinski redeemed Grotenburg after converting a penalty in the 83rd minute. Julian Stöhr’s team would have loved to hold on to a 1-0 victory. Think again!
The Blue and Reds didn’t have much time to celebrate after taking the lead. Holzheimer SG responded promptly. Emre-Ilhan Caraj (86th minute) took heart and fired a powerful shot into the goal from the second row – 1-1!
Just when everyone in the stadium thought the game would end in a draw and some fans were already leaving the stands, this happened: KFC Uerdingen was awarded another penalty and Jan Schumacher was sent off with a red card. Lipinski stepped up and converted the penalty just as confidently as the first one, shooting into the bottom left corner. A 2-1 victory for KFC Uerdingen!
On a side note: Captain Päffgen had also told Forecasting before the game: “We want to get back on track on Saturday and win – also for our great fans!” No sooner said than done: the KFC fans certainly got their money’s worth with the last-minute victory.
