In the upcoming matchday 10 of the A-Junioren-Bundesliga West, Borussia Dortmund’s U19s will face the youngsters of VfL Bochum. BVB captain Nnamdi Collins expects three points.
Borussia Dortmund’s U19 team is the only team in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga West still undefeated and is currently second in the table with one point less on its account than the leaders from 1. FC Köln.
This season, the BVB defence around team captain Pharrell Nnamdi Collins has conceded only six goals – the best record in the league – and has recently gone five games without conceding a goal.
In Borussia’s recent 3-0 win over SC Preußen Münster’s U19s, the Dortmund back line received extra praise from head coach Mike Tullberg. Defensive gem Collins was also pleased with the performance against Münster.
“Against Münster, we had a hard time getting into the game and first had to get used to their style of play. After that, we got better and better from time to time and finally pulled off our plan and did it well,” Collins summed up with a view to the home win against Münster.
On the upcoming 10th matchday, the young Dortmunders will have to face the U19s of VfL Bochum in a small derby. BVB captain Collins also wants to get three points with his team against VfL. “A derby like this is always a bit different from normal games. If you’ve already played a few derbies, such as against Schalke or Bochum, then you know that it’s always something else in terms of intensity. Nevertheless, it’s a game like any other. We will go into it just as motivated and get the three points,” explained the defender with regard to the upcoming matchday.
BVB coach Tullberg: “We have everything in our own hands “
If 1. FC Köln drop points against Viktoria Köln on the next matchday, Dortmund would be back at the top of the table with a win over VfL Bochum. Dortmund coach Tullberg nevertheless expects a difficult encounter.
We have everything in our own hands. As long as we manage to play to nil and score a goal or two, everything will go well.
Mike Tullberg
“It’s important for us to be in one of the top two places at the end of the season. We have everything in our own hands. As long as we manage to play to nil and score a goal or two, everything will go well. Nevertheless, it will be difficult in Bochum, as we saw last year. It’s November and the pitch conditions are difficult. That’s where everything comes in. It’s going to be a tough battle and we’ll be prepared for that,” Tullberg revealed in reference to the upcoming match.
Nevertheless, the Dortmund coach does not see the upcoming encounter as a long-distance duel for the top spot against league leader Cologne: “I don’t see a long-distance duel there at all, because we always just concentrate on ourselves. We are the only team that is still undefeated and I am very proud of that. I’ve known for years that Cologne does a good job with youth work. I wouldn’t begrudge them to be in the top two teams if we are there too. I can only praise them,” Tullberg explained.
