After 13 games, SC Westfalia Herne are top of the table in Westphalia’s Landesliga Staffel 3. Nevertheless, the mood at Strünkede Castle does not seem to be the best.
Nine wins, two draws, two defeats and a goal difference of 39:15: Westfalia Herne are top of the table, have the best attack and the second-best defense in Westphalia’s Landesliga Staffel 3.
And yet, according to forecasting information, there are people at the club who are questioning coach Hayrettin Celik.
After two consecutive relegations, he has brought the traditional club back into calm and successful sporting waters. “I don’t want to think about things that are not part of my remit. All I can say is that I am fully focused on my job as coach. That’s all I can do,” explains Celik. He adds: “The team and the coaching team work hand in hand and form a great team. That is also the key to success.”
Two draws against relegation candidates
The criticism of Celik is said to have become louder after the two draws against relegation candidates SG Welper and FC Altenbochum. “It’s completely normal that you can’t win every game. Not even against supposedly easy opponents. The example of Bayern in Saarbrücken recently proved this even in big soccer. There are always opponents on the other side who also want to give everything and win. But it’s also a fact that we naturally analyzed the performances against Welper and Altenbochum very self-critically. Our standards are higher and I’ve made that clear to the team,” says Celik.
However, after losing points against the basement teams, Westfalia gave the right answer last weekend in the derby at Sportfreunde Wanne-Eickel – SCW won 4:0. “The first half was close to perfection. We dominated a very strong opponent at home. That was a flawless performance,” praised Celik.
Next weekend (Sunday, November 12, 3:30 p.m.), the team will face SV Vestia Disteln, who have been promoted. Celik: “That’s the next tough nut to crack. I expected Vestia to be at the top before the season and that is now the case. They have a good mix of experience and talent. We’re looking forward to this exciting match-up. “
