Bitter loss for Chelsea FC: The English top club must do without an important player in the Champions League second leg against Borussia Dortmund.
The English top club FC Chelsea will have to do without central defender Thiago Silva (38) in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. As the Blues announced on Tuesday, the captain of the Brazilian national team has suffered a ligament injury in his knee and is out for the time being.
Silva was substituted in the Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspur (0:2) at the weekend because of the injury in the first half. Chelsea did not give any details about the time of absence, but the duel with BVB on 7 March comes too soon. The Londoners had lost the first leg 0:1.
It is further bad news for team manager Graham Potter, who is under massive pressure after winning just two of his last 15 games in the competition. Silva had missed only three Premier League games so far this season.
