Choreography, fan festival, fan march – that’s what RWE fans are planning in Edinburgh

Rot-Weiss Essen will play Scottish first division club Hibernian Edinburgh on Wednesday. Over 2,000 fans will be there to celebrate a big football festival.

The wait is over for fans of third division football club Rot-Weiss Essen. For months, supporters of the local club have been looking forward to the highlight of the current summer preparations. On Wednesday (7 p.m., RS live ticker), a historic European Cup match will be replayed in the Scottish capital Edinburgh. Exactly 70 years ago, RWE and first division club Hibernian FC met in the newly founded European Cup, the forerunner of the Champions League.

Some euphoric Essen fans already made their way to Scotland last weekend, with most of the 2,200 RWE fans expected to set off at the beginning of this week.

The ambitious third-division club’s active fan scene will also be there. They have called on RWE supporters to turn up in uniform for Wednesday’s match. “Everyone in red to Edinburgh” is the motto that Rot-Weiss Essen shared on its wide-reaching social media channels on Monday.

To ensure unforgettable images, the active fan scene of the local club is planning a choreographed display for the match at Easter Road. To finance the choreography, themed merchandise for the match against the Scottish Europa League participants has been on sale since June 30.

The hosts will also be doing their bit to make it a fan festival. A fan zone will open in front of the Pat Stanton Stand at Easter Road Stadium on match day at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free. There will be street food stalls, a DJ, a children’s area, and a picnic table area. “In our children’s area, there will be a face painting and balloon station, a speed cage and VR soccer, special treats, and more,” the club wrote in its announcement on social media.
