BVB disappoints in its second match of the season and drops its first points. After the 1:1 at VfL Bochum, Sky pundit Lothar Matthäus is clear.
The Ruhrstadion is not a good place for Borussia Dortmund’s professionals. BVB once again had a very difficult time in the small Westphalian derby on Saturday afternoon. In the end, the score was 1:1 (0:1) against VfL Bochum at Castroper Straße.
The same result as in the final phase of last season. That ultimately cost the Dortmund team the championship. Now the first two points of the new season are gone.
As in the 1:0 victory against 1. FC Köln, the title candidates disappointed all along the line. Sky pundit Lothar Matthäus had clear words for BVB’s shaky start afterwards. “The four points Dortmund scored are too many. BVB was really lucky against Cologne. That is far too little so far. “
According to Matthäus, coach Edin Terzic’s team should not have complained about a defeat in Bochum either. Donyell Malen equalised – with the help of VfL goalkeeper Manuel Riemann – (56th) and thus prevented the first Bundesliga defeat in the Ruhrstadion in 16 years. “BVB benefited from Manuel Riemann’s mistake, the ball was stoppable.”
VfL Bochum celebrated draw against BVB like a victory
Especially in the first half, coach Edin Terzic’s team revealed glaring weaknesses. It was only in the second 45 minutes that the BVB stars held up better. “We were overrun by the intensity of Bochum in the first half,” commented BVB keeper Gregor Kobel on Sky. With a brilliant save, the Swiss goalkeeper probably prevented an embarrassment in the second half.
While the Bochum fans celebrated the 1-1 draw with their fans as if it were a victory, the BVB players only briefly showed themselves to their fans after the disappointing game and then quickly disappeared into the dressing room.
