After the sixth defeat in the sixth match, the board of VfL Bochum is discussing how to proceed – also with regard to Thomas Reis.
Crisis meeting at VfL Bochum. According to unanimous media reports, the board of the bottom club, which has no points, met on Sunday to analyse the current situation.
The sporting management sat together until late in the evening. However, a decision is not expected to be announced on Sunday. The question of the coach was postponed until Monday.
Under discussion is whether coach Thomas Reis is expected to turn the team around. He himself said after the 1:3 defeat against Schalke: “I’ve seen a team that follows me and I wouldn’t worry until I don’t see that anymore.” However, he also added that he could not influence what happens now.
VfL Bochum: Reis’ future is questionable
This is in the hands of Fabian, finance director Ilja Kaenzig and supervisory board boss Hans-Peter Villis. Next up is the home game against 1. FC Köln (Sunday, 18 September, 17:30). A new coach would have the opportunity to set new impulses during the week. Postponing the decision until after the game could mean that a possible successor would have the game against RB Leipzig first up – a thankless start to a turnaround.
Option three: The managers have confidence in Reis at least until the early winter break in November and go into the coming games with the 48-year-old. In the games so far, the Bochum side have not been without a chance, and the team and fans still seem to be behind the coach. Simon Zoller and Philipp Hofmann, among others, made this clear after the Revier derby.
