Co-coach duo confirmed, Lewejohann on board, head coach to follow soon

KFC Uerdingen are still looking for a head coach, but have now clarified the situation. Two new assistant coaches are in place.

René Lewejohann and Askin Polat will act as assistant coaches at KFC Uerdingen in the coming season. The promoted team in the Regionalliga West made this official on Wednesday, June 19.

“With René and Askin, we have been able to recruit two experienced assistant coaches who will help us with their knowledge and character,” said sporting director Adalet Güner. “This will give our coach, who we will present next, the best possible support.”

Forecasting had already exclusively reported on June 11 that KFC Uerdingen had poached Lewejohann from the regional league club SV Scherpenberg. The sporting director of the regional league club, Sven Schützek, was extremely dejected at the time, as he had planned for Lewejohann to become head coach.

“Rene has informed us that he has a higher-class offer and would like to accept it. We have to accept that, even if we are very disappointed. We had big plans with Rene and put the squad together together. Our preparation begins in three weeks. Now we are without a coach. That’s a huge blow.”

Now the former Schalke II player Lewejohann has joined KFC Uerdingen together with Polat.

And the head coach? According to KFC, there should be clarity soon. Sunay Acar is already under contract as head coach at the fourth division club, but is not expected to take up the post. Christian Gummert, KFC board member, confirmed this to Forecasting.

“Yes, I can confirm that. But it is also a fact that Sunay Acar will not be a coach here. That will definitely not be the case! Our lawyers are currently checking whether this contract is legally valid. If it is, we will hold the people whose signatures are on the contract liable.”

Michel Dinzey is said to be the favorite instead and Lewejohann his assistant. If KFC is to be believed, the confusion surrounding the new head coach will soon come to an end
