Before heading to training camp, VfL Bochum’s U19s had a win, followed by a break in a few days. Then they will continue without a long-serving assistant coach.

VfL Bochum’s U19s celebrated their fifth successive test match victory with a 1-0 win over 1. FC Kaiserslautern U19s. Julian Yao Mawuli Etse scored shortly before the break – his goal was the only one.

Coach David Siebers’ team had previously beaten Hannover 96 (5:1), Eintracht Dortmund (6:0), FSV Frankfurt (2:1) and Arminia Bielefeld U19s (6:1). The team also took part in an international tournament in Amsterdam.

Coach David Siebers analyzed to RS: “The result is very pleasing. We didn’t have many players in the squad, but we put in a decent performance. We had a lot of shots, but unfortunately most of them were blocked or saved. I can’t remember a game where we’ve had so many corners. We then scored from them. But in my opinion, we could have scored more goals from play or from set pieces.”

Nevertheless, it was enough to secure the win, which was dedicated to a special colleague, as Siebers revealed: “It was a nice send-off for my long-standing assistant coach colleague Julian Schröer, who is retiring from soccer today. We were able to give him a fitting farewell.”

The victory was almost in jeopardy, as FCK came close at the end and the Bochum team saved the 1:0 over time. Siebers: “In the end, it was our fault that Lauern was able to equalize because we didn’t take care of the decision beforehand. It was great for us in this test that it got intense again. Even though it was just a test match, you could see how the boys were cheering and high-fiving each other to get the win.”

After the 1-0 win, it’s only time for a little rest before the next part of the preparation. Siebers on the plan: “We’ll now train four more times. Then we’ll send the boys away for ten days at the start of the school vacations. They’ll be given running plans for that time, then from July 15 they’ll go straight to a week’s training camp in Osnabrück.” cb / gp
