Alemannia Aachen will host SC Wiedenbrück on Friday (7.30 pm). Coach Heiner Backhaus spoke in the run-up to the game about the high pressure and lack of mentality in the Bocholt defeat.
Alemannia Aachen got the frustration of the top match defeat against league leaders 1. FC Bocholt off their chest during the week in the Mittelrhein Cup. The action in the Regionalliga West continues on Friday (November 10, 19:30, RS live ticker).
Aachen coach Heiner Backhaus spoke in the run-up to the game about …
… the strain of three games in six days: “There’s nothing better. If you want to be a professional footballer, if you look at it today, you have to or are allowed to play every three days. I think it’s better to play than train at this stage anyway, because our training pitch isn’t in the best condition at the moment.”
… the 10:0 in the Mittelrhein Cup against Hilal Maroc Bergheim: “I thought the game was really good, a worthy setting. We struggled in both halves for the first ten or 15 minutes, when our opponents still had strength. After that, you could tell that our opponents were running out of energy.”
… the lack of mentality in the game against Bocholt: “That has a lot to do with upbringing, education and prosperity, but also with our own aspirations. It’s a generational issue, it doesn’t just affect us here, it affects everyone. When we play against Bocholt and are nine points behind them, we have to ask ourselves what they do better than us. If you look at the content level, I can’t say much.”
“But when I see the Bocholt striker blocking the ball and jumping up the fence because he would otherwise be injured and sprinting back onto the pitch, laughing because he’s still in pain – that’s the kind of thing where I end up saying that they deserve to be up there. And we have to get there, take responsibility on the pitch and push ourselves like our opponents did. We can still improve this energy – one hundred percent.”
… the upcoming opponent SC Wiedenbrück: “An opponent who is certainly not a favorite here, who hasn’t won their last games and has their backs to the wall. I think they will try to go for a point here and perhaps cause a surprise with their quick transition play. And we have to see that we play better soccer with the ball, but not at the expense of intensity and tackling – both up front and at the back.”
… their own match plan: “We’re playing at home against a team that defends a little deeper. They will certainly bring one or two attacking players into the box. That will give us more presence up front, but of course they also have to deliver. “
