Following the cup match against Dortmund, VfL Bochum will face the next heavyweight in the Bundesliga: Bayern Munich.
VfL Bochum lost 1:2 to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening after a great DFB Cup fight. The VfL received a lot of praise, but Bochum was eliminated.
On Saturday (15:30), it is up to VfL to annoy FC Bayern Munich with a similarly strong performance. Then away in their Allianz Arena.
“We mentioned in the meeting after the BVB game that we had the opponent at one stage. Nevertheless, we didn’t manage to turn the game on our side. That’s why we can’t be satisfied. We lacked the killer instinct at the right moments. We have to work on that. Nevertheless, we have to learn from this game that every team will have a hard time against us if we play like this,” analysed VfL coach Thomas Letsch, who of course already had the Bayern duel in the back of his mind.
A more defensive tactic in Munich than against Dortmund? Not with Letsch! He replies against such ideas: “It would be fatal to go to Munich with the idea that we’ll get the place full. Then we don’t need to go to Munich at all. We’re playing against a top European team, against the ultimate in German football. But Borussia Dortmund is also in the Champions League. And we managed to annoy them. It’s now a matter of figuring out how we approach the game in Munich. The same as always or we modify a few things. We will deal with that from now on. So far, the focus has been on BVB. “
Whether Letsch will make any personnel changes at Bayern compared to the BVB game is still – as of Thursday, 9 February – an open question.
Letsch explains: “The pitch was very deep and the boys need to regenerate their bodies and their heads. For the other players, it is now a matter of setting a stimulus. We’ll have to see how the final training session goes on Friday and then we’ll see with which team we start at Bayern. wozi with gp
