SC Velbert got off to an excellent start in the Velbert Indoor City Championship, but ultimately finished fifth. Coach Dennis Czayka answered Forecasting’s questions.
After a perfect preliminary round with 15 points and 18:0 goals from five games, SC Velbert still failed to qualify for the semi-finals on the final day of the Indoor City Championships.
In the match for fifth place, the regional league team at least managed to beat Türkgücü 2:1 despite trailing 0:1 at the break. SC coach Dennis Czayka was nevertheless dissatisfied afterwards, mainly with the intermediate round.
The tournament was a mirror image of the season so far. Velbert also got off to a good start in the first half of the season with five wins from the first six games, but then things became more mixed.
Forecasting spoke to Czayka about …
… the course of the indoor city championship: “We wanted to play for the trophies on the last day, so we’re a bit disappointed. We let that slip away in the intermediate round. However, we finished with a decent performance. But we could have done better. “
“At the end of the day, we’d like to finish in the top third again.”
Dennis Czayka
.. on the season so far: “With our young team, fluctuations in performance are always to be expected. We got off to a good start and then had phases where we scored fewer points. Overall, I’m satisfied with the result, but we still have room for improvement.”
… his time at SC Velbert: “We’re on an excellent path. When we started here, there was a huge rebuild. We made a big cut. Our team has an average age of around 21. It wasn’t directly about getting promoted again. But we did well in our first year and finished sixth.”[/b]
No squad changes during the winter break
… the goals for the second half of the season: “We want to become a really good national league team, which we haven’t been so far. But we are on the right track. We hope to be knocking on the door of the top flight in the medium term. We haven’t been able to do that yet. Of course, we’re in no man’s land in the table. Nevertheless, we would like to improve our points average and improve in general. We know where we can and must improve. Ultimately, we would like to finish in the top third again.”
… on the squad structure: “We’re going into the second half of the season with the same team. We have to look at our plans for the season as a whole and think about our goals for the future in the summer. The resulting measures will then have to be considered, and I can’t comment on that at the moment. “
