Shortly before Christmas, Spielclub 1920 Oberhausen is once again facing a personnel change. Thorsten Möllmann returns to the dugout.
SC 1920 Oberhausen has not won a game since the 7th match day. Nevertheless, with twelve points from 15 games, the club is still above the cut-off point in the Bezirksliga Group 5 in the Lower Rhine region.
Last weekend, they suffered a 3-1 defeat against the top team VfB Bottrop. This was too much for the club’s management on Mellinghofer Straße. Coach Murat Cebeci has been released from his duties.
“SC 20 and head coach Murat Cebeci have decided by mutual agreement to go their separate ways. The sporting decline of recent weeks is forcing the club to act. And Murat himself also believes that a fresh wind needs to blow through the team,” said a Facebook post from the Oberhausen club.
Cebeci had tried many things and was very committed and passionate about it. But somehow he couldn’t ignite the fire in the team around former professional Ümit Ertural. Now none other than Thorsten Möllmann, president of the club and coaching icon in Oberhausen amateur football, is supposed to accomplish this.
“Murat has worked hard and passionately for success every day and we are very grateful to him for that. But now it’s time to bring new life into the team. Especially before the end of the year and the important six-point game on Saturday against MTV Union Hamborn. Only three points count here! President Thorsten Möllmann will take care of the team in this important game on Saturday. After that, the board will use the winter break to look for possible successors,” the SC 1920 Oberhausen board announced.
SC 1920 has so far won three and drawn three. Nine encounters have been lost. The new year 2024 starts for the Möllmann club with an Oberhausen derby against promoted SuS 21. The game will then take place on February 18. Enough time for the as-yet-unknown new SC head coach to prepare the team properly for the rest of the round.
