After the 0:1 defeat against Sportfreunde Siegen, SV Westfalia Rhynern’s promotion to the Regionalliga is becoming a distant prospect. Coach Michael Kaminski gave free rein to his anger.
The mood at SV Westfalia Rhynern is threatening to change: Until a fortnight ago, the ambitious club from Hamm was still competing for the promotion places in the Oberliga Westfalen. But the big dream of the regional league has become a distant memory again within a few days.
Against the relegation-threatened Sportfreunde Siegen, the hosts once again brought hardly anything of what has distinguished them so far onto the field. The 0:1 (0:0) defeat is now the third defeat in a row.
Head coach Michael Kaminski expressed his annoyance: “I really have to hold back. I saw 90 minutes of scaredy-cat football from us. Against a team that comes here totally unsettled, we have one or two chances. As coach of Westfalia Rhynern, I don’t know when I’ve seen such a lousy performance from my team. Siegen gave it their all, were more greedy for the three-pointer and deserved to win.”
Already in the first half, the visitors from the Siegerland showed more bite on the slippery pitch and came up trumps with their mentality. Marius Zentler (3rd), Arda Nebi (19th) and Malik Hodroj (38th) tested Rhynern keeper Alexander Hahnemann with good finishes.
After the dressing room, it was a similar picture. Finally, it was the young midfielder Zentler who gave Sportfreunde a deserved 1:0 lead in the 80th minute. In the final seconds, Siegen even missed a three-on-one counterattack chance (90th), but still managed to secure the away win and gain some breathing space in the bottom of the table.
Sportfreunde coach and ex-Bundesliga professional Patrick Helmes was relieved: “We invested a lot and deserved to win. We’ll take the three points with us, but we could have decided that earlier. There were four men under 20 in my eleven who fought great and played passionately. In the last six games, we didn’t lose four times. Accordingly, we are very happy for now.”
Four points out of 15 – Kaminski sharply critical
As a result of the defeat, Westfalia Rhynern slipped down to fifth place in the table and is gradually distancing itself from the top flight. Coach Kaminski with clear words: “The way we played, I hope the club didn’t apply for the Regionalliga. In the last two weeks we had a total of 15 points and we scored four of them. You can see where the trend is going, namely not upwards. No one needs to dream of the regional league. That has to be said quite clearly.”
Next week, the 39-year-old and his team have to face ASC 09 Dortmund, who are also in crisis (02.04., 15:00). Sportfreunde Siegen travel to league leaders SC Preußen Münster II (29.03., 20:00 hrs) during the week.
