Coach resigns in the Westfalenliga

In the Westfalenliga 2, a coach who had only taken over this season has resigned. The reason for this is health reasons.

Coach resigns in the Westfalenliga 2: Christian Mengert has resigned as coach of SV Wacker Obercastrop. This was announced by the club after the 1:1 defeat at SC Neheim last Sunday.

After nine games, the Obercastrop team has only one win and a total of seven points, and is in the first relegation spot. However, Mengert’s decision obviously has nothing to do with his sporting performance. Rather, health reasons prompted him to take this step. The club wrote this in a statement and at the same time asked that Mengert’s privacy be respected.

Who will take over his post is currently uncertain. SV Wacker says it wants to “calmly look for a successor”. Until a successor is found, the sporting director and co-coach Steffen Golob will take over on an interim basis. He had already replaced Mengert on Sunday.

He is supported by a prominent name: Ex-professional Jürgen Duah is at Golob’s side. The 36-year-old once played for VfL Bochum II, SG Wattenscheid and played 20 third-league matches in the jersey of Preußen Münster. He already worked as an assistant under Mengert. Goalkeeping coach David Menke will also remain part of the coaching team.

Mengert had only taken over in the summer. In the previous five years, Aytac Uzunoglu was on the sidelines. He led the club from the Bezirksliga to the Westfalenliga, where they twice managed to stay in the league. Now the search for a coach in Obercastrop is starting all over again.

It remains to be seen whether there will be a full move before the next home match against RSV Meinerzhagen (Sunday, 3.30 p.m.)
