ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen has still not found a new head coach following the dismissal of Dennis Czayka. However, there is a top candidate.
After parting ways with head coach Dennis Czayka and the subsequent 2-0 derby win against Adler Frintrop, ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen had to settle for a goalless draw at 1. FC Monheim. U19 coach Björn Matzel was on the ETB sideline for both games.
Matzel will probably remain U19 coach. He may be integrated into the first team as an assistant. However, everything currently points to the Essen-based Oberliga club presenting a new head coach in the first week of November.
“We have spoken to two or three coaches and will be talking to further candidates by the weekend. In any case, Björn Matzel will be in charge of the team on Sunday against Hilden. Björn is fully involved in our selection process. We are communicating with him very openly and very clearly,” ETB president Karl Weiß told Forecasting on Wednesday (October 29).
RS knows that ETB spoke with Christian Dorda on Tuesday evening. The conversation lasted over two hours and is said to have been very productive. In short: Dorda has been given time to consider and is the top candidate for the head coach position at Uhlenkrug. ETB SW Essen: Dorda is the top candidate, Westerhoff was also spoken to “I will not comment on names. As I said, we are currently talking to several candidates,” emphasizes Weiß. These include Sebastian Westerhoff.
The 39-year-old had been coaching Westphalian Oberliga club TuS Ennepetal since January 1, 2023, and was relieved of his duties in September 2025. Westerhoff also has a history with ETB. He once scored 36 goals in 101 games for the “Schwatten” as a striker. Now he could return to the Uhlenkrug as coach. But currently, everything points to Dorda. He just has to give ETB his “yes.” For the 36-year-old former pro, it would be his second head coaching position after Germania Ratingen 04/19 – July 1, 2024, to October 30, 2024. Previously, the former professional was assistant coach at SSVg Velbert. The former left-back, who played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Greuther Fürth, Hansa Rostock, and KFC Uerdingen in Germany, ended his career in 2022. During his career, he played seven Bundesliga games for Borussia Mönchengladbach and 142 games in the 3. Liga, scoring four goals and providing eleven assists. Dorda also played in the Netherlands and Belgium.
