No easy rides for the three local clubs in the second round of the DFB Cup. BVB in particular has a tough match ahead of it.
The lots have been drawn. On Sunday, the draw for the second round of the DFB Cup took place. Three teams from the region were still in the running: Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04, and VfL Bochum. And the lucky draw master, Dr. Felix Brych, drew different degrees of difficulty for the three clubs. BVB drew the toughest opponent, having to travel to Eintracht Frankfurt. FC Schalke will face SV Darmstadt – a duel between two second division teams. VfL Bochum has an unpleasant trip to Bundesliga club FC Augsburg ahead of them. And as always, the question arises: who drew FC Bayern? This time it was Bundesliga newcomers 1. FC Köln, who will at least get to play the record champions at home. Defending champions VfB Stuttgart will travel to FSV Mainz. Energie Cottbus, the only third division team, was drawn against RB Leipzig, and FV Illertissen, the only regional league team still in the competition, will play at home against 1. FC Magdeburg.
The prize money for the first round of the DFB Cup was €211,886. For the second round, €423,772 will be distributed among the participants. Those who reach the round of 16 can look forward to a further €847,544.
