Coman shoots Bayern to a good starting position – Milan win with Thiaw

FC Bayern won the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie at Paris St.Germain 1-0, while AC Milan were also successful around ex-Schalker Malick Thiaw.

Final hero Kingsley Coman led FC Bayern to cloud nine on Valentine’s Day: The German record champions can continue to dream of the coveted trophy after a deserved 1:0 (0:0) in the Champions League round of 16 clash with struggling Paris St. Germain.

In the duel with PSG superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, the Munich team secured a very good starting position for the second leg on 8 March at the Allianz Arena. But beware: two years ago, Paris had won the away match 3:2 and had progressed.

Coman scored the 1:0 for Munich in the 53rd minute. The Frenchman had already decided the final against his former club PSG in 2020. The star ensemble from Paris, on the other hand, could not fulfil the huge expectations in front of 44,000 spectators in the Prinzenpark for a long time, only after the substitution of Mbappe (57th) did the Bavarians have to survive some critical moments. In injury time, Benjamin Pavard was shown a yellow card (90.+1, repeated foul play).

The pressure on PSG is mounting. But Bayern, who missed further goals after taking the lead, would also be shaken to the core by another early exit in the top flight.

Milan win against Tottenham – Thiaw plays through

AC Milan have established a good starting position in the battle for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Italian champions beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 (1-0) in the round of 16 first leg. Brahim Diaz (7th) scored the host’s goal. The second leg will be played on 8 March in London.

After taking an early lead, Milan pulled one back with Under-21 international Malick Thiaw in the starting eleven at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Tottenham had plenty of possession but the visitors’ attacking play lacked pace and ideas. The 2019 Champions League finalists did not create a goal-scoring opportunity in the first half.

Milan continued to stand firm after the changeover and looked for opportunities to switch the ball around. Tottenham continued to find it difficult to set the scene for goalscorer Harry Kane. But AC also had little to offer in the offensive. Thiaw, however, missed a great chance to make it 2-0 when he headed just wide of the goal (79th).
